Mohamed Habib struck a late equaliser as Ghana rescued a point in their opening 2019 Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations Group A clash against Cameroon on Friday.

Frank Evina had given the Young Indomitable Lions the lead on the hour-mark, but they could not hold onto that advantage as a scramble in the box allowed Habib to equalise.

After a goalless first half, Evina netted a superb free-kick to put his side in front, curling his effort into the top corner.

Cameroon coach Rigobert Song was left to rue the lapse of concentration from his side late on.

“I’m satisfied with my players’ performance,” he said. “We are missing four key players and in the coming game at least two of them will join us. My players lost concentration for a minute so we conceded a late equaliser.”

His Ghana counterpart, Ibrahim Tanko, was pleased with the point.

“I take this as a good result. We trailed but my players showed character to return to the game. Our next match will be even more difficult because we are facing the hosts, Egypt. But we will do our best to get a positive result.”

Ghana face Egypt on Monday, while Cameroon take on Mali. Egypt beat Mali 1-0 in their opening game on Friday.
