Ghana & SA headline qualifiers as Algeria host Zambia

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers (group stage) will take centre stage between Wednesday and Saturday.


The action will be headlined by an encounter between Ghana and South Africa in their opening game in Group C on Thursday.


The two former African champions are set to square off in the city of Cape Coast.


The matches will start on Wednesday with the 2019 Afcon runners-up Senegal taking on Congo-Brazaville in a Group I match in Thies.


Wilfried Ndidi’s Nigeria are scheduled to take on their West African rivals Benin in a Group L encounter in Uyo.


While the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will play host to Cape Verde in a Group F game Yaounde.


CAR will square off with Burundi, while Malawi host South Sudan and Chad will be away to Namibia.


On Thursday, Algeria and Zambia will battle it out in a clash between current and former African champions in a Group H match in Blida.


Record-seven time African champions Egypt are set to take on Kenya in a Group G encounter in Alexandria.


Togo will face Comoros and DR Congo are expected to host Pierre-Emeric Aubameyang’s Gabon in Kinshasa.


On Friday, Zimbabwe will renew their rivalry with their neighbours Botswana in Harare, while Tunisia are set to lock horns with fellow North African side, Libya.


Lastly, two-time African champions Ivory Coast are scheduled to host Niger on Saturday and Ethiopia will be away to Madagascar.
