Reigning Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) champions Algeria will face Botswana in a 2021 Group H qualifier at National Stadium in Gaborone on Monday evening. Kick-off is at 21h00 CAT (GMT +2).
The Dessert Foxes got their qualifying campaign off to a flying start with a 5-0 win over Zambia in Blida on Thursday.
Baghdad Bounedjah continued his good run of form with a second-half brace as the 2019 Afcon champions extended their unbeaten run to an incredible 17 matches.
Algeria, though, will be without captain Riyad Mahrez for the clash in Botswana’s capital with head coach Djamel Belmadi confirming that he will miss the match due to ‘personal reasons’.
Botswana, in search of only their second appearance at Africa’s premier competition, got their campaign off to a positive start with a 0-0 draw away to Southern African rivals Zimbabwe in Harare on Friday.
Algeria, though, will provide a different test altogether, but with head coach Adel Amrouche in their corner, the Zebras have a mentor more than familiar with the North African nation.
The Dessert Foxes head into the clash ranked as the fourth best team on the African continent, while Botswana come in at 42nd.
