Belgian club Westerlo have cancelled the contract of former Nigerian international Emmanuel Emenike after less than two months.

The decision comes after just 149 minutes of action – spread over five games for the second division outfit – and without any goals for the 32-year-old.

“Emmanuel Emenike and KVC Westerlo have decision after discussion to end their co-operation,” said a club statement.

“Despite the many guarantees to improve, it was not possible to bring the player up to a level that both parties had envisaged.

“It was decided then to end the relationship on a good note. KVC Westerlo thanks Emmanuel for choosing our club and the confidence in the club and the player thanks the club for the opportunity it offered him.”

Emenike started his professional career in South Africa’s second division but suddenly catapulted to Europe, playing at Karabükspor, Fenerbahçe, Spartak Moscow, West Ham United and Olympiakos.

He had been without a club for a year before signing a season-long contract with the Belgian outfit.
