Friday Nov 22, 2019. 14:00 identifies Five African Stars to watch in European club action this weekend.

Club football takes centre stage following the November international break, with many of the continent’s standout players who were involved in 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying action, to take to the field in Europe this weekend.

5 Players To Watch:

Victor Osimhen

The Nigeria international starred for the Super Eagles in back-to-back wins over Benin and Lesotho. The Lille forward scored three goals in two games, assisting a further two as he played a central role in all of his country’s goals in a 4-2 thumping of Likuena in Maseru.

The French-based forward has been equally impressive for Lille this season and heads into tonight’s Ligue 1 clash versus Paris Saint-Germain having scored nine goals in 17 matches across all competitions.

Achraf Hakimi

Another to have found the back of the net for his country during the international break, Hakimi has been in incredible form for Borussia Dortmund this season.

The Morocco international has showcased his versatility by taking up a more advanced role for the German Bundesliga club, and the experiment has paid off with him having netted six goals in 18 matches thus far.

Dieumerci Mbokani

The burly Democratic Republic of Congo forward has already been in club action this week, netting a brace for Antwerp in a 3-2 win over KAA Gent.

The double takes his tally up to 13 in 19 matches this season, while he has chipped in with seven assists. Mbokani will be hoping to build on his golden boot form away to the same opponents on Sunday.

Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace will have the difficult task of stopping a rampant Liverpool side this weekend, but with Mohamed Salah out injured there is place for another African to try and steal the shine from Sadio Mane!

While Zaha has yet to hit the form everyone knows he is capable of, the Ivorian winger remains a huge threat and alongside fellow African, Jordan Ayew, the Eagles will be hoping to end the Reds unbeaten run.

Mohammed Salisu

The towering Ghanaian centre-back has impressed for Real Valladolid this season, with his form not going unnoticed.

Everton, Newcastle United, Schalke and Sevilla are all said to be tracking the 20-year-old’s progress and he will be hoping to build on his good run of form when his club side visit one of those potential suitors in the Spanish La Liga this weekend.
