The draw for the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will take place in Cairo early in the New Year.
The ceremony had originally been scheduled for host country Qatar on January 15 but will now take place eight days later in Cairo, just before the Confederation of African Football’s award ceremony.
The 40- countries remaining in the race for five places at Qatar 2022 will be divided into 10 groups of four.
The group winners will then play off for the five places at the finals.
The group qualifiers will start in March.
Last September, a total of 14 preliminary round matches were held to determine teams to join 26 countries, who were given byes into the group phase.
