Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah headline the preliminary lists of nominees for the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) annual awards.

No less than 30 names have been revealed for the men’s category, including a trio of Liverpool players as Salah (the current two-time winner) and Mane are joined by Reds teammate and Guinea international Naby Keita.

The likes of Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, who helped Algeria win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Ajax star Hakim Ziyech and Ivorian attacker Nicolas Pepe have also made the preliminary cut.

Others, including Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, also appear on the African Youth Player of the Year list, while the men’s national team award naturally features AFCON champions Algeria, as well as tournament surprise packages Madagascar.

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango features in the newly-named African Interclubs Player of the year award, which will honour Africa-based players.

In the women’s player category, Nigeria have three players on the list, including three-time former winner Asisat Oshoala, while current title holder Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa is again up for the award.

The list of nominees is compiled by a panel of media and technical professionals and the awards will take place on Tuesday 7 January 2020 in Hurghada, Egypt.
