Bloemfontein Celtic and Cape Town City will meet for a midweek Absa Premiership battle at the Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday 27 November 2019, kick-off at 19h30.

Celtic have gone three league matches unbeaten after they drew 2-2 away to Maritzburg United on November 8, though they will be disappointed at conceding a last-gasp goal to miss out on a full haul of points. Phunya Sele Sele have claimed 10 points from five home matches this season.

City suffered a fourth defeat of the season when they went down 2-1 away to Black Leopards at Thohoyandou on November 10. The Citizens have yet to win on the road this term and have taken just four points from six away matches.

In head-to-head stats, City and Celtic have met in six league matches since 2016/17. The Citizens have claimed three wins compared to one for Phunya Sele Sele, while two games have been drawn. The Bloemfontein side has recorded two draws and one defeat from their three home matches in the rivalry.

Last season City completed a league ‘double’ over Celtic, winning 3-2 at in Cape Town in December 2018 (thanks to an opening strike from Siphelele Mthembu and a brace from Bradley Ralani) while the return game in Bloemfontein in April 2019 was awarded 3-0 to the Citizens – the fixture was abandoned due to a pitch invasion from the crowd.

Celtic’s line-up from their 2-2 draw with Maritzburg on November 8: Mabokgwane (Chaine 68′), Mashikinya (Potsane 90+3′), Ngobeni, Mabena, Baloyi, Pfumbidzai, Masuku, Luthuli, Motebang (Maema 68′), Lingwati, Phalane.

City’s line-up from their 2-1 loss to Leopards on November 10: Stephens, Mkhize, Fielies, Potouridis (Abrahams 87’), Edmilson, Norodien (Makola 72’), Mokeke, Nodada, Ralani, Erasmus, Mthembu (Lakay 46’).
