Cedric Bakambu has endorsed fellow African Sadio Mane to win the 2019 Ballon d’Or at Monday’s event ceremony in Paris.
The Democratic Republic of Congo forward voiced his support for the Senegal international on Twitter this week (see below).
Bakambu follows Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard in choosing Mane as their winner of the prestigious accolade.
Virgil van Dijk and Lionel Messi remain favourites for the award, but fans this week joined in the chorus of support for Mane.
The Liverpool forward played an integral role in the Reds run to Uefa Champions League glory last season, while he bagged a brace in the club’s Uefa Super Cup win over Chelsea.
Mane, 27, has carried that form into the league season with eight goals and four assists to his name after 13 matches.
Furthermore, he helped his country to the final of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations before losing to Algeria.
