AmaZulu and Maritzburg United will meet for a KwaZulu-Natal derby in the Absa Premiership at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday 1 December 2019, kick-off at 15h30.
AmaZulu suffered a second successive league defeat when they went down 1-0 away to Mamelodi Sundowns on November 26. Usuthu have claimed seven points from six home matches this season, and lost 1-0 to Chippa United in their last outing as hosts.
Maritzburg saw their winless run in the league extended to three matches with a 2-0 home loss at the hands of SuperSport United on November 27. The Team of Choice has taken five points from as many away matches this season.
In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and AmaZulu have met in 20 league matches since 2006/07. The Team of Choice has claimed 10 wins compared to two for Usuthu, while eight matches have been drawn. The Durban side has claimed just one win from 10 home matches in the rivalry, suffering five defeats in the process.
Last season Maritzburg took four points off AmaZulu, drawing 0-0 in Durban in October 2018, while the return game in Pietermaritzburg in March 2019 was won 2-1 by the Team of Choice, thanks to goals from Fortune Makaringe and Judas Moseamedi.
