JS Kabylie secured a 1-0 win over AS Vita Club in their opening CAF Champions League Group D match at the Stade du 1er Novembre 1954 on Friday evening.

The victory took the Algerian side to the top of the Group D standings, while DR Congo’s Vita Club are placed fourth on the table.

The Lions of Djurdjura searched for an early goal which would have unsettled the Black Dolphins’ defence in the opening stages.

The hosts created goalscoring opportunities, but they could not beat Nelson Lukong in the Vita Club goal-posts.

Vita Club were able to contain Kabylie until the match referee Ahmad Heeralall, who hails from Mauritius, blew the half-time whistle.

Kabylie continued to search for the opening goal after the restart with Tourik Addadi working hard in midfield.

The hosts’ pressure did pay off six minutes after the hour-mark and it was Addadi, who broke the deadlock.

The 29-year-old player beat Cameroonian shot-stopper Lukong to make it 1-0 to Kabylie much to the delight of the home crowd.

Merveille Wamba Kikasa was introduced by the visitors as they looked to grab a late equalising goal.

However, Kabylie stood firm at the back and they emerged 1-0 winners over Vita Club in their first Group D match.
