Al Ahly coach Rene Weiler felt his side were the better side despite their 1-0 loss to Etoile du Sahel in their CAF Champions League Group B clash on Friday.

Weiler felt the game turned on a red card for Ayman Ashraf after only 13 minutes as Etoile took advantage of the numerical supremacy to claim a vital home win. The card was handed out by referee Joshua Bondo from Botswana.

Yassine Chikhaoui scored the only goal five minutes after the break, but Weiler says the win for the Tunisians was ill-deserved.

“We’re frustrated by the defeat. I think we played well during the first-half but the red card made it very difficult for us,” he told reporters. “The game changed drastically and the goal we conceded at the start of the second-half made it even more difficult for us but we were the better side

“The red card was very controversial. Sometimes it’s better not to comment on these situations.”

Ahly host Sudanese side Al Hilal in their second pool game on Dec 6, while Etoile travel to Zimbabwe to face FC Platinum a day later.
