Holders Esperance made the perfect start to their group stage campaign in the 2019-20 CFA Champions league with a 2-0 victory at Raja Casablanca on Saturday.
The Tunisian side took the early lead in their pool after goals from Anice Badri and Ibrahim Ouattara sealed the win.
It was a first home defeat for Raja in the Champions League since 2005, a run of 18 games in which they had won 11, and was also a first meeting between the sides in the competition for 20 years after a pair of 0-0 draws in 1999.
The result also extended to eight the unbeaten run of Esperance away from home in Africa’s elite competition, one of the major factors behind their recent success.
Esperance now host Algerian side JS Kabylie in their next match on Friday, while Raja travel to the DR Congo to meet Vita Club on the same day.
