In a move that will be viewed as ironic by many a visitor to Cairo, Egyptian giants Al Ahly have filed a complaint with the FIFA Ethic Committee over the handling by referee Joshua Bondo of their CAF Champions League clash with Etoile du Sahel at the weekend.
Botswana referee Bondo sent off Ahly defender Ayman Ashraf after 13 minutes for a professional foul, while the Egyptians also felt they were denied a clear later in the game penalty.
Ahly laid a complaint with CAF immediately after the fixture, but have now also decided to reach out to FIFA as well as they claim this is the latest in a series of alleged errors against them.
“Al Ahly’s board, led by Mahmoud El-Khatib, have decided to file a complaint to FIFA because of the unacceptable officiating errors made by African referees against us in recent years,” Al Ahly’s said in a statement.
