Nigeria international Josh Maja scored his first career hat-trick as Bordeaux thumped Nimes 6-0 in the French Ligue 1 on Tuesday evening.
The 20-year-old had scored just twice all season, but more than doubled his tally for the campaign with three goals within the space of 30 minutes.
Maja, who moved to Bordeaux from Sunderland in January this year, has now scored seven goals in 22 matches for the French club.
He is the fourth Nigerian to score 3+ goals in a Ligue 1 game in the last 50 years, following Peter Odemwingie, Victor Agali John Utaka who did so on three occasions.
Maja is also now the fourth best goal scorer aged 20 or under in Europe’s top five leagues this season. A list which is topped by a fellow Nigeria international, Lille’s Victor Osimhen.
Born in England, Maja made his debut for the Super Eagles against Ukraine in September.
