Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp says Nigeria international goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will keep the gloves for the foreseeable future.
Middendorp confirmed that South Africa star Itumeleng Khune is back in training and full fit, but feels he needs more time to get back his sharpness.
And they should mean a run for Akpeyi in the side to the end of the year at least, with Khune only likely to make a push for a place in January at the earliest.
Akpeyi will therefore be between the posts when Chiefs look to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership to 13 points with a home win against Bloemfontein Celtic in Durban on Saturday.
“As I said, he [Khune] is not injured, he is in training now. We have to make a decision about who now from a point of competitiveness is best prepared for this game we have on Saturday evening,” Middendorp told reporters.
“It is Daniel Akpeyi and it is he who will play. The second best prepared at the moment is Bruce Bvuma and he will be the second goalkeeper.”
