Rangers and Nigerian international midfielder Joe Aribo says his club manager Steven Gerrard is “like a mentor” and he hopes to learn from the football legend.
Aribo arrived at Ibrox, the home ground of the Scottish Premiership giants, over the European summer from English side Charlton Athletic and has been getting advice from the Rangers manager on how to take his game to the next level.
The midfielder admits that he isn’t looking too far ahead in the future as he settles in Glasgow and is looking to repay Gerrard’s faith with strong performances.
“He’s my manager but he’s just so down to earth, so easy-going and he’s like a mentor to me also, he just helps me, he gives me points on how to improve my game,” Aribo told the Super Eagles’ YouTube channel.
“I don’t really look too far but I’d just say I want to keep my head down, playing for Rangers, doing the best I can.”
Aribo will hope to help his side claim the Scottish League Cup title later today when they face arch rivals Celtic in the final at Hampden Park.
