Achraf Bencharki scored both goals as Zamalek returned to winning ways a week after sacking their coach, by beating Primeiro Agosto 2-0 in the African Champions League on Saturday.

Youssef Obama set up the 16th minute opener as Bencharki finished from close range at the far post before the Morocco international got his second after 68 minutes.

The result saw the Cairo club register their first points in Group A after being thumped 3-0 away by TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo last week.

The loss led to the departure of Serbian coach Milutin Sredojevic amid reports that Zamalek players had not be played for several months but Zamalek moved swiftly to bring in Patrice Carteron in his place.

Frenchman Carteron, with considerable experience in north Africa, had midweek success in domestic cup competition and then saw his charges grind out a valuable win on Saturday at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.

The win moved Zamalek from bottom in the group to second spot, three points behind Mazembe, who won away at Zesco United in Zambia earlier on Saturday.
