Tuesday Dec 10, 2019. 12:00 takes a look at five African stars you should be keeping an eye on in tonight’s Uefa Champions League matches.

There is still a lot to play for in the final round of group stage action this week, starting on Tuesday with no fewer than eight matches spread across Europe.

Sadio Mane

The defending champions are not yet guaranteed a place in the knockout stages of this season’s competition and will thus need a good performance against RB Salzburg in Austria this evening.

Senegal international, Mane, has been in superb form this season and heads into the clash having scored 13 goals and assisted a further seven in 21 appearances across all competitions.

Mbwana Samatta

While Genk have already crashed out of this season’s competition, the Belgium club could still have a say in who advances from Group E.

Brugge are away to Napoli this evening, with the battle between the Tanzania captain and Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly an intriguing one. Samatta has scored 10 goals in 24 matches this season.

Maxwell Cornet

Lyon are another team hoping to sneak into the knockout stages in the final round of group stage fixtures and will need to get a result against RB Leipzig if they are to have a chance of doing just that.

Ivory Coast international, Cornet, hasn’t been at his brilliant best this season, but could have a large say in tonight’s fixture.

Andre Onana

The Cameroon international has been passed fit to face Valencia in Ajax Amsterdam’s crunch fixture this evening. The 23-year-old has established himself as not only a key member of the Dutch champions’ squad, but as the best current goalkeeper from the African continent.

He has carried his great form into the current campaign and will have an important role to play in Amsterdam, as will fellow African and Morocco international winger, Hakim Ziyech who has already assisted 20 goals this season.

Victor Osimhen

As with Genk, Lille have nothing but pride to play for this evening, but they too could have a huge say in who progresses from Group H as they prepare to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Nigeria international has quickly emerged as one of the hottest talents in Europe and could further enhance his reputation with a good showing in London.

Osimhen, 20, has scored 11 goals in 21 games this season.
