Wigan Athletic captain and defensive midfielder Sam Morsy is keen to return to the Egyptian national team.

The last time the 28-year-old midfield maestro played for the Pharaohs was last year under Mexican coach Javier Aguirre.

The former African champions have a new coach in Hossam El-Badry, who was appointed a few months ago.

Morsy believes that he’s the only one capable of convincing El-Badry to call him up to their next camp.

“In that period where I wasn’t there, he [Javier Aguirre] gave other players a chance to impress and I ended up not going,” Morsy told King Fut.

“There’s now a new manager who I believe has been watching me, so it’s up to me to grasp any opportunity,” he concluded.

Morsy, who was born in Wolverhampton, England, has made seven appearances for the Pharaohs since making his international debut in 2016.

Egypt are set to take part in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which are scheduled to be played in March 2020.
