Bidvest Wits and Cape Town City will renew hostilities when they meet in an Absa Premiership clash at Dobsonville Stadium on Friday 20 December 2019, kick-off at 20h00.
Wits come into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek, with Gift Motupa scoring their goal at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on December 17. The Clever Boys have taken just seven points from five home matches this season.
City have gone four league matches without a win – and dropped to within a point of the bottom of the log – after they were beaten 1-0 at home by Chippa United on December 7. The Citizens have claimed just five points from seven winless away matches this term.
In head-to-head stats, City and Wits have met in six league matches since the 2016/17 season. The Citizens have claimed three wins compared to two for the Clever Boys, while one game has been drawn. The Johannesburg side has lost all three of their previous home matches in the rivalry.
The teams’ league meetings last season produced two away wins: Wits triumphed 2-0 in Cape Town in October 2018, while the return game in Johannesburg in March 2019 saw the Citizens come from two goals down to claim a 3-2 victory, with strikes from Kermit Erasmus, Bradley Ralani and Riyaad Norodien.
