Hosts Uganda lifted the 2019 CECAFA Cup title with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Eritrea in Thursday’s final in Kampala.
Bright Anukani, Mustafa Kizza and Joel Madondo were on target for The Cranes as they confirmed their status as the leading side in the East African championship this year.
They dominated the game from the start and also had an early goal ruled out for offside after Allan Okello had headed the ball into the back of the net.
It is a first title for new Uganda coach Johnny McKinstry and also the best ever finish for Eritrea, who previous best in the competition was fourth place in 1994.
The Golden Boot award in the tournament was shared by Kenyans Hassan Abdallah and Musa Wamalwa, and Uganda’s Anukani.
Kenya beat Tanzania 2-1 to take the bronze medal, with Abdallah and Kenneth Muguna on target.
