Bidvest Wits built on their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership with a 2-0 win over 10-man Cape Town City at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Friday evening.
Terrence Dzvukamanja and club captain Thulani Hlatshwayo found the back of the net for the Clever Boys in a match which Ebrahim Seedat saw red for the visitors in the first-half of play.
Victory keeps Wits in fourth place on the league standings, 11 points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs, while victory serves as a timely morale booster before Christmas and in build-up to a busy run of fixtures into the new year.
Wits hit the front with 29 minutes on the clock as Dzvukamanja pounced on a defensive error before firing a left-footed shot past Peter Leeuwenburgh from the edge of the penalty area.
The Clever Boys continued to dominate proceeding up until the break, with Gift Motupa and Hlatshwayo going close for the hosts, before Seedat received his marching orders following a second bookable offence.
Wits doubled their lead in the 56th minute as Hlatshwayo nodded home a perfectly weighted corner-kick from man-of-the-match Sameehg Doutie.
City’s best chance came soon after as Shane Roberts thumped his attempt onto the crossbar, but that is how close the visitors would come as Wits secured all three points.
