Defending Austrian Bundesliga champions RB Salzburg have handed new contracts to three of their African youngsters.

The club announced this week that they have extended the stay of Zambian duo Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu, as well as Mali international Sekou Koita until 2024.

Salzburg has proven to be a breeding ground for African football talent over the years with both Sadio Mane and Naby Keita owing much of their progress to ‘Die Mozartstädter’.

The contract extensions followed short on the heels of Takumi Minamino’s sale to Liverpool, where he will join both Mane and Keita at Anfield.

Salzburg’s sports director, Christoph Freund, had the following to say about the trio’s extension at the Red Bull Arena:

“Patson, Enock and Sekou – each in their own way – have developed extremely well in recent months.

“They have made the leap from talented people to players who now play an important role in our team. We are very proud of their development in our system.

“With their contract extensions, we have taken an important further sporting step, but also made a good investment for the future,” he concluded.

Mwepu has contributed six assists in 20 appearances across all competitions this season, while his Chipolopolo teammate Daka has scored 17 goals in 26 matches, while also chipping in with six assists. Koita, who is currently struggling with injury, has 11 goal contributions in 13 games.
