Major League Soccer side New York Red Bulls have signed a new contract with Egyptian defender Amro Tarek, the club confirmed on Friday.
The 27-year-old excelled in his first season with the Red Bulls in 2019, winning the Newcomer of the Year prize and making 20 appearances for the club.
He had arrived from Orlando City prior to the start of the campaign and Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett says they were impressed by how he settled in.
“Amro fit [sic] in well with our team from the start, and was solid when called upon last season,” Hamlett told the club’s website.
“He’s a versatile defender, and his qualities fit well within our playing philosophy. Amro proved to be an important player for us and we’re pleased to extend his time with us into 2020 and beyond.”
Los Angeles-born Tarek was previously on the books of German Bundesliga sides Wolfsburg and Freiburg, but only played for their reserve sides.
He also had an unsuccessful spell with Real Betis in Spain’s LaLiga, before making his debut MLS with Columbus Crew in 2016.
He also had spells with Wadi Degla, El Gouna and ENPPI in the Egyptian Premier League, but impressed with Orlando City in 2018, which led to his move to New York.
