ZESCO United and Zamalek drew 1-1 in the CAF Champions League Group A match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, Zambian champions ZESCO are placed third on the group standings, and Egyptian giants Zamalek are placed second on the log.

The hosts contained the White Knights in the opening exchanges of the match with Mohamed Ounajem leading the visitors’ attack.

The former Wydad Casablanca attacker had a chance to break the deadlock just after the half-hour mark

However, Ounajem placed his header straight at ZESCO goalkeeper Jacob Banda, who made a comfortable save.

Zega Mambo did threaten through Jackson Were a few minutes before half-time, but Zamalek goalkeeper Abou Gabal made a great save to deny the attacker.

The two teams were locked at 0-0 during the half-time break.

Zega Mambo were the better side in the early stages of the second-half and they should have broken the deadlock just after the hour-mark.

Winston Kalengo found some space and he unleashed a shot which was brilliantly saved by towering goalkeeper Gabal.

However, it was the visitors, who broke the deadlock when Mostafa Mohamed headed home to make it 1-0 to Zamalek in the 72nd minute.

The hosts then pressed the White Knights and they managed to level matters six minutes later after the visitors’ defence was exposed.

Aladeokun Quadri Kola was the man, who hit the back of the net to ensure that ZESCO held Zamalek to aa 1-1 draw on the day.
