Kaizer Chiefs will look for a quick response to their weekend Absa Premiership loss when they host Highlands Park at FNB Stadium on Wednesday 8 January 2020, kick-off at 19h30.

Chiefs suffered just their second defeat of the league season – and a first away from home – when they succumbed 2-1 at SuperSport United on January 4. The Amakhosi have claimed 13 points from six home matches in the 2019/20 campaign.

Highlands claimed a second successive win in the league when they defeated Black Leopards 2-1 at home on January 5, courtesy of goals from Mothobi Mvala and Mokete Mogaila. The Lions of the North have claimed seven points from eight away matches this season.

In head-to-head stats, Highlands and Chiefs have met in five league matches since the 2016/17 season. The Amakhosi boast an unbeaten record against the Lions of the North, with four wins and one draw in the sequence. The Soweto giants have won both of their two previous home matches in the rivalry.

When the teams met earlier this season, at Makhulong Stadium in August 2019, Chiefs claimed a 3-2 away win thanks to goals from Lebogang Manyama (two) and Eric Mathoho. Rodney Ramagalela and Peter Shalulile were on target for the Lions of the North.

Chiefs’ line-up from their 2-1 loss to SuperSport on January 4: Akpeyi, Sasman, Cardoso, Mathoho, Frosler (Moleko 78′), Zulu (Zuma 46′) , Maluleka, Parker, Castro, Manyama, Nurkovic.

Highlands’ line-up from their 2-1 win over Leopards: Heugh, Mokoena, Munyai, Letsholonyane (Mbunjana 62’), Rae, Mahlangu (Motsepe 45+1’), Msimango, Mbatha, Shalulile, Mvala, Mogaila (Ramagalela 73’).
