Orlando Pirates striker Frank Mhango says he will keep his feet on the ground after a powerful midweek performance in which he inspired his team to their biggest win of the season.
The Malawian hit a hat-trick in Pirates’ 4-1 Absa Premiership win away to Polokwane City on Tuesday night, continuing their upturn in form following the arrival of new coach Josef Zinnbauer.
Mhango became the first player to hit double figures for goals in South Africa’s top flight this season, and is also the first Bucs man to hit three in a game since Tendai Ndoro in August 2016.
“I am happy with [Tuesday] night’s performance,” Mhango told his club’s official website.
“This is just the result and performance we needed. We really got stuck into giving a good performance, very intense from front to back.
“We worked so hard and moved the ball well particularly in the first half but most importantly, we went home with all three points.
“On a personal level I am very pleased to have scored a hat-trick, as an attacking player goals is what we live for.
“But there’s no time to relax, we need to stay grounded and not get ahead of ourselves. We have important games lined up this month. We need to try build on [Tuesday] night’s performance and produce some consistent results.”
Pirates will be back in Absa Premiership action next Wednesday when they face Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
