Al Ahly will be without winger Hussein El-Shahat for their CAF Champions League Group B match away to Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum on Saturday.
The Egyptian international is close to recovering from injury and it was touch and go as to whether he would be included in the Red Devils’ travelling squad for the trip to Bulawayo, but ultimately Ahly decided against risking the 28-year-old.
“Both tactical and medical staff preferred not to include El-Shahat to the players travelling to Zimbabwe to give him more time to recover from his injury,”
Ahly’s assistant coach Sami Komsan told the club’s official website, as quoted by Ahram Online.
El-Shahat has been a consistent performer for Ahly this season and notably scored the opening goal in their 2-1 win over Sudan’s Al Hilal in early December.
The Cairo giants come into the weekend’s clash placed first on the Group B log with six points, though they are level with Hilal and Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel.
Platinum are bottom of the log with zero points, but will not be underestimated by the travellers.
“Platinum’s loss against Etoile du Sahel at home doesn’t mean they are a weak team, especially that Zimbabwe’s champion was dominating the game. Ahly will play the game as usual to get the three points,” added Komsan.
