Chippa United and Maritzburg United will both be looking to continue their strong form in the Absa Premiership when they meet at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Saturday 11 January 2020, kick-off at 20h15.

Chippa claimed a fifth win from their last seven league matches when they defeated Black Leopards 2-1 away on January 8, with goals at the start and end of the game by Thabo Rakhale and Silas Maziya respectively. The Chilli Boys have claimed 11 points from nine home matches this season.

Maritzburg stretched their unbeaten run in the league to five matches with a 2-2 draw at SuperSport United on January 8, twice fighting back from a goal down thanks to strikes from Judas Moseamedi and Thabiso Kutumela. The Team of Choice has claimed 10 points from eight away matches this season.

In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and Chippa have met in 13 league matches since 2012/13. The Team of Choice has claimed five wins compared to two for the Chilli Boys, while six matches have been drawn. The Eastern Cape side has won just one of their six home league matches in the rivalry, suffering two defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, at the Harry Gwala Stadium in September 2019, Maritzburg won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Thabiso Kutumela. The victory was the Team of Choice’s first in the current campaign.

Maritzburg’s line-up from their 2-2 draw with SuperSport on January 8: Ofori, Allie, Mngonyama, De Reuck, Kunene, Lea’alafa (Shandu 39’), Claasen, Timm, Buchanan, Hlongwane (Brockie 58’), Moseamedi (Kutumela 64’).
