Zamalek manager Patrice Carteron has expressed his happiness with the team’s 2-0 win over Zesco United in the CAF Champions League this weekend.
The Egyptian giants claimed a 2-0 win over their Zambian visitors at the Al Salaam Stadium in Cairo on Friday night, thanks to goals from Achraf Bencharki and Mostafa Mohamed.
The result took the White Knights up to seven points from four matches and within touching distance of the quarterfinals in Africa’s premier club competition.
“I’m happy with our performance and the result against Zesco,” Carteron said during the post match press conference, as quoted by KingFut.
“We improved in comparison to our first game against them [a 1-1 draw in Ndola in late December]. This mainly due to the fact that we rested most of the starters against Tanta.
“We scored one goal early on and we were trying to increase our tally throughout the game.
“Previously we were struggling with scoring, especially against Smouha and Entag. Now we make the most out of our chances and we score and most importantly we are still able to get to our opposition’s goal.
“We’re not focusing on topping our group as our only goal is to win every game,” he added.
Zamalek will next be in Champions League action when they host DR Congo giants TP Mazembe on the final weekend of January. The White Knights were handed a 3-0 thrashing when the teams first met in Lubumbashi back in November.
