Bidvest Wits were beaten 2-1 by Al Nasr SC in the CAF Confederation Cup Group C match at the Petro Sport Stadium on Sunday.
The result left the former South African champions Wits and Libyan side Al Nasr placed fourth and second respectively on the group standings.
Alfahama and the Clever Boys launched attacks in search of the opening goal in the first-half.
However, the two teams were able to find the back of the net and the score was 0-0 during the half-time break.
The home side pushed for the opening goal after the restart and the deadlock was finally broken following a mistake by Terrence Dzvukamanja.
The Wits attacker netted an own goal to hand Al Nasr the lead four minutes into the second-half.
Mohamed Alkikly’s men then pushed for more goals and they managed to double their lead just after the hour-mark.
Muhanad Alaeeli was the man who beat Brandon Petersen in the Wits goal-posts to make it 2-0 to Al Nasr.
Wits coach Gavin Hunt reacted by introducing Rowan Human and Molahlehi Khunyedi as the visitors looked to pull one back.
The South Africans did find the back of the net through substitute Haashim Domingo, who beat Al Nasr goalkeeper Fathi Al Rasheed to make it 2-1 with 15 minutes left.
Wits then pushed for a late equalising goal, but Al Nasr stood firm at the back and they emerged 2-1 winners on the night.
