Orlando Pirates will look to dent Mamelodi Sundowns’ Absa Premiership title hopes when the teams meet at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday 15 January 2020, kick-off at 19h30.

Pirates extended their unbeaten run in the league to five matches and claimed their biggest win of the season when they defeated Polokwane City 4-1 away on January 7, with Frank Mhango netting a hat-trick. The Buccaneers have taken 15 points from seven home matches thus far in the 2019/20 campaign.

Sundowns saw their unbeaten run stretched to six matches following a 0-0 draw at home to Bidvest Wits on January 7. The Brazilians have taken 12 points from a possible 21 on the road in the league season so far.

In head-to-head stats, Sundowns and Pirates have met in 69 league matches since 1985. The Brazilians have claimed 30 wins compared to 20 for the Buccaneers, while 19 games have been drawn. The Soweto side has won 10 of 34 home matches in the rivalry, suffering 16 defeats in the process.

Last season the teams played to stalemates in both of their league meetings, drawing 0-0 at Loftus Stadium in November 2018 and 0-0 again at Orlando Stadium in April 2019.

Pirates’ line-up from their 4-1 win over Polokwane on January 7: Sandilands, Nyauza, Jele, Maela, Mabaso, Motshwari, Makaringe (Mntambo 75′), Pule, Lorch (Mabasa 89′), Memela (Monyane 82′), Mhango.
