Algeria international Riyad Mahrez has lauded his Manchester City teammate, Sergio Aguero, as a ‘legend’.
This comes after the Argentine striker set two new English Premier League records in City’s 6-1 win over Aston Villa over the weekend.
Aguero moved ahead of French legend Thierry Henry to become the league’s leading all-time overseas goalscorer with the second of his three strikes against Villa.
The prolific marksman also completed his 20th Premier League hat-trick late on in the game to move ahead of English legend Alan Shearer as the division’s record treble king.
“We try to pass to each other and try to give each other more chances to score – and that’s what this team is all about,” said Mahrez on the club’s official website.
“The stats speak for themselves. He’s a legend for the club and Premier League.
“He shows it every week and I’m very happy to have him in the team,” he added.
“He has a lot of quality but he doesn’t need a lot of chances to score, so that shows how big a striker he is.”
Mahrez bagged the opening two goals in the 6-1 victory at Villa Park.
