Mbwana Samatta’s dream of playing in the English Premier League is edging closer to becoming a reality.
That is according to several reports across Europe with Aston Villa reported favourites to sign the KRC Genk forward this month.
According to BBC Sport the Premier League club are hoping to complete a £10m deal for the Tanzania international in the current transfer window, which will duly make the striker the first from his country to play in England’s top-flight.
Villa have lost Brazilian forward Wesley for the remainder of the campaign with a knee injury and with Ivorian forward Jonathan Kodjia set for a move away from Villa Park, the club are in desperate search of a striker.
Samatta has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, while clubs from Serie A and German Bundesliga have also said to have enquired about his services.
Villa, though, seem to be the frontrunners for his signature as they aim to avoid relegation back to the Championship.
Samatta has been one of the Belgium Pro League’s best players over the last few seasons since joining Genk from African powerhouse TP Mazembe four years ago.
He finished top scorer in Belgium last season and has netted 10 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions in the current campaign.
