Bloemfontein Celtic will play ‘host’ to Chippa United in an Absa Premiership match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday 19 January 2020, kick-off at 15h00.
Celtic, who suffered a sixth defeat of the season when they went down 3-2 away to Bidvest Wits on January 15, will be using the Port Elizabeth venue as an alternate home ground due to renovations on the Dr Molemela Stadium. Phunya Sele Sele have claimed 15 points from nine matches as hosts this season.
Chippa come into the match on the back of a 0-0 draw at home to Maritzburg United on January 11 – they have suffered just one defeat in their last eight league matches. The Chilli Boys have claimed nine points from eight away matches in the 2019/20 campaign.
In head-to-head stats, Chippa and Celtic have met in 13 league matches since 2012/13. Phunya Sele Sele have claimed six wins compared to three for the Chilli Boys, while four matches have been drawn. The Bloemfontein side has won four of their six home matches in the rivalry and suffered just one defeat in the process.
When the teams met earlier this season, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in September 2019, they played out a goalless stalemate. It was the fourth 0-0 draw between the teams from their last seven league meetings.
