Monday Jan 20, 2020. 13:00 takes a look at the top performing African footballers in Europe this past weekend.

It wasn’t the continent’s best week on the goalscoring front, but nevertheless here are five African’s who caught the eye.

Mohamed Salah

The Egypt international has largely been in the shadow of teammate and fellow African Sadio Mane this season, but his goal and subsequent celebration with Alisson Becker will serve as a highlight piece to Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Victory at Anfield not only broadened the gap between themselves and their fiercest rival, but also took them ever closer to a first league title in three decades. The goal was also the winger’s first against the Red Devils.

Andrew Ayew

The Ghana international is one of the form players in the English Championship and continued his good run with the winner for Swansea City against Wigan Athletic.

Ayew’s strike keeps the Swans in the promotion playoff places for another week, while the goal was also his 10th of the season.

Anthony Nwakaeme

The Nigerian forward scored a brace for Trabzonspor in a 6-0 thumping of Kasimpasa this past weekend.

Victory keeps the club in third place on the log standings and five points off the Turkish Super League leaders at this stage of the season.

Andy Delort and Farid El Melali

The Algerian duo scored two goals apiece for Montpellier and Angers SCO respectively in the French Cup.
