Africa’s qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will take clearer shape on Tuesday evening when the draw for the second round (group stage) is held in Cairo.
Forty teams will be divided up into 10 groups of four. Over the weekend, CAF released the make-up of the four pots for the draw, with pot 1 featuring the 10 highest-listed teams according to FIFA’s December rankings, working down to the 10 lowest-ranked teams in pot 4.

One team will be drawn from each pot to make up a group, ending up with 10 groups of four teams each. This phase of qualifiers will see the teams play each other within their group on a home and away basis.
The team with the most points in each group advances to the final playoff phase of five two-legged ties – the winner of each tie secures a place at the 2022 World Cup.
