Ghana head coach CK Akonnor has had his say on Ghana’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying group.
The Black Stars have been handed a difficult group that consists of South Africa, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe.
Ghana are hoping to make a return to the world showpiece after missing the 2018 World Cup hosted in Russia and will take confidence from the fact that the first time they qualified for a world showpiece (in 2006), Bafana Bafana were among their group rivals.
Akonnor, though, isn’t getting carried away just yet and expects a difficult qualifying campaign. Ghana’s road to Qatar hasn’t been given a starting date just yet with the group stage fixtures to be announced in due course.
“We know all the teams,” Akonnor said in a TV interview as per Goal.com.
“South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia will do their bit to get there but we will put in hard work and we know that hard work pays.
“The last [World Cup] we went to was in Brazil. We didn’t qualify for the last one and we are hoping and believing that this is the time for us to be back there.
“But it is important for us to put in hard work.
“It is the desire for all the teams to qualify but we will put a lot of work in the desire to qualify,” Akonnor concluded.
