Zesco United and Primeiro de Agosto will be in a potential fight for their CAF Champions League lives when they meet at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Saturday 25 January, kick-off at 18:00 CAT.
The teams ate tied at the bottom of Group A with just two points apiece and verging on elimination. In fact, a win for Zamalek over leaders (and already qualified) TP Mazembe in Cairo on Friday night would mathematically eliminate both, while a draw would see the end of Zesco’s hopes and leave Agosto clinging on by their fingernails. Only an away win for the Ravens on January 24 keeps the Zambian and Angolan clubs in the hunt for the quarterfinals.
Zesco have been on a run of terrible form both domestically and in the Champions League, with their last Group A outing a 2-0 loss at Zamalek on January 10 which left them on just two points from four matches.
Agosto have the same tally, with their last Champions League result a 2-1 loss at TP Mazembe on January 11, though they will take some major confidence from a 4-0 win over Progresso in the Angolan Girabola last weekend.
When the teams met in the first round of Group A matches back in November 2019, they played out a 1-1 draw at Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda. The hosts took an early lead through Mabululu, before Clement Mwape equalised for Team Ya Ziko.
Algerian referee Mehdi Abid Charef will be in charge of the game in Ndola on Saturday evening.
