We identify three players to watch in the Total CAF Champions League this coming weekend.
There are just two places still up for grabs heading into the final round of group stage fixtures, with two of either Al Ahly, Etoile du Sahel or Al-Hilal to advance from Group B.
The six teams that have already booked they place in the quarter-finals are: TP Mazembe, Zamalek, Mamelodi Sundowns, Wydad Casablanca, defending champions Esperance de Tunis and Raja Casablanca.
Here are three players to keep an eye on in Africa’s premier club competition:
The Democratic Republic of Congo forward has made an incredible start to life at Wydad Casablanca.
The forward has scored seven goals in his first six games for the Moroccan club across all competitions and found the back of the net in the club’s most recent Champions League clash.
He will be aiming to build on that form when Wydad travel to South Africa this week for a top of the table clash.
The Nigerian forward scored the decisive goal in Al Ahly’s 1-0 win over Etoile du Sahel and will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the club’s final group game.
The record eight-time champions are yet to book their spot in the knockout stages and will need to avoid defeat away to Al-Hilal in Sudan to be sure of a place in the next round.
Mamelodi Sundowns will be eager to get one over Wydad in what is a growing rivalry.
Not only are bragging rights up for grabs, but a place atop Group C. A draw will be enough for the Brazilians, but Pitso Mosimane’s troops will be eyeing all three points in front of their home fans.
Key in doing that will be Themba Zwane. The midfielder was superb for the Brazilians in last season’s competition and continues to play a pivotal role in the club’s success.
