Italy and Roma legend Francesco Totti has expressed his happiness at the success former teammate Mohamed Salah has enjoyed at Liverpool.
The Egyptian and Totti were on the same roster at the Giallorossi from 2015 to 2017, with Salah moving to Liverpool for a record-breaking fee at the end of that spell, while Totti hung up his boots after a 25-year career.
The Pharaohs star has gone on to enjoy major success with the Reds, scoring 87 goals in 136 appearances and winning the UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup in 2019, with a Premier League title very likely to follow in the coming months.
Totti, who has recently become estranged from Roma due to strained relations with the club management, is happy that Salah has taken his career to a new level at Anfield.
“If Salah would’ve stayed in Rome it would have been almost impossible for him to win the Champions League. But having moved to a new club that has won many tournaments he had more chances,” Totti told Goal.
“I am happy for him, because he is an exceptional guy. He made that big substantial leap from Rome to Liverpool that nobody would have expected. He is now a player that changes any game at any time,” he concluded.
Salah scored the opening goal in Liverpool’s 2-0 win at West Ham United last night which opened up a 19-point lead at the summit of the Premier League.
