Mamelodi Sundowns secured their spot atop 2019-20 Total CAF Champions League Group C with a 1-0 win over Wydad Casablanca at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday afternoon.

The Brazilians duly end the group stage campaign unbeaten and with a club record points tally, having amassed 14 points from a possible 18 on offer.

Victory propelled the South African champions past the 12 they accumulated in the 2000 tournament, as Pitso Mosimane’s men now set their sights on adding to the crown they won four years ago.

Despite the defeat, Wydad will join Sundowns in the quarter-finals having also secured their place in the knockout stages by last weekend.

Ricardo Nascimento scored the only goal of the game, firing home from the penalty spot in first-half added time after Lebohang Maboe was hauled down inside the area.

Sundowns survived a late scare to claim all three points with Denis Onyango on hand to deny Kazadi Kasengu a late equaliser from point-blank range, but either way the two teams will know there are bigger games on the horizon with the quarter-finals to commence later this month.
