Bidvest Wits suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Djoliba AC in their final Group C clash of the 2019-20 Total CAF Confederation Cup at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Sunday evening.
The Clever Boys exit the competition having conjured two points from their allotted group stage fixtures and while Djoliba’s campaign ended a high, they also exit Africa’s second tier club competition with Horoya and Al-Nasr advancing onto the quarter-finals.
Djoliba hit the front after just 15 minutes in Soweto as Barou Sanogo rose highest from a corner-kick before directing a powerful header into the back of the net.
The Malian club made sure of the result a minute into the second half as Oumar Camara latched onto a cross from the right flank; directing his first time shot past Brighton Mhlongo.
Horoya beat Al-Nasr 2-0 in Cairo, in the other Group C clash on the night.
Next up for Bidvest Wits is an Absa Premiership fixture at home to Black Leopards at Bidvest Stadium on Thursday evening.
