Midfielder Dean Furman says he wants to continue playing for the South African national team despite his decision to leave the Premier Soccer League (PSL) at the end of the current season.

The 31-year-old confirmed late last year that he will leave SuperSport United at the end of the season and head back to the United Kingdom, where he spent the formative years of his career.

Despite leaving the country and facing an uncertain future in terms of where he will next play club football, Furman hopes to continue representing Bafana Bafana.

“I don’t want to retire. I want to remain available for Bafana. There’s competition for places, but I still want to be part of that Bafana setup. But I first have to finish the season on a high,” Furman is quoted by IOL.

South Africa will resume their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign next month and Furman says he is fully focused on his football.

“I’m looking forward to the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers. Obviously, I have to sit down at some point and see where my future lies,” Furman added.

“We will discuss the future for the club football and international football as well.

“At the moment, I’m focused on the nine games that are left in the league and the upcoming qualifiers. Beyond that, we will consider that after this season.”

Furman will next be in action for SuperSport United when they face Tshwane rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in a Nedbank Cup clash on Saturday night.
