Zamalek coach Patrice Carteron has hailed his team for their 3-1 triumph over Esperance de Tunis in the CAF Super Cup last night.
The Egyptian side claimed victory at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium in Al Rayyan, Doha thanks to goals from Youssef Obama and Achraf Bencharki. Raouf Benguit netted the Tunisian side’s consolation.
The victory secured a fourth Super Cup for the White Knights, who will face the Blood and Gold again over two legs in the upcoming quarterfinals of the 2019/20 CAF Champions League.
“We’re very proud, it’s not easy to beat the CAF Champions League champions twice in a row. We know Esperance really well, they’re a very strong side but we performed really well and we could’ve scored more goals in the first-half,” Carteron said during the post match press conference, as quoted by King Fut.
“We lost a bit of focus after the equaliser but we remained calm and confident. The players worked really hard and they deserve the win. I know that everyone in Egypt will be happy and we will celebrate tonight.
“We worked really hard on the tactical level because Esperance are a really strong side.
The players were exceptional and didn’t leave any spaces for the opponent, we stopped all their crosses, we were really good in the counter attacks and we could’ve scored more goals.
“I’m happy with the team’s spirit, the result and the win and now let us celebrate,” he concluded.
Zamalek will next be in action on Thursday February 20 when they face Al Ahly in an Egyptian Super Cup clash.
