We take a look at the African stars to keep an eye on in tonight’s UEFA Champions League action.
Following a quiet night for the continent on Tuesday – which included wins for Thomas Partey’s Atletico Madrid and Achraf Hakimi’s Borussia Dortmund – Africa’s stars will be aiming to grab the headlines in this evening’s two fixtures.
Atalanta will be at home to Valencia while Tottenham Hotspur take on high-flying RB Leipzig in London. Both Round of 16 first-leg fixtures will kick-off at 22h00 CAT.
The Central African Republic midfielder heads into the midweek fixture on the back of scoring a goal in Valencia’s 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid this past weekend.
The 27-year-old has established himself as an integral member of the squad this season, and will have an important part to play in midfield for the Spanish club as they eye a place in the next round.
The 22-year-old has drifted in and out of the starting eleven this season, featuring four times for RB Leipzig in the group stages of this season’s competition.
He will be hoping to be involved from the onset away to Spurs this evening as the German club aim to build on what has been a promising season thus far.
The Ivory Coast international has established himself as Spurs’ first choice right-back this season and with eight goal contributions in 27 appearances, he offers value at either end of the pitch.
The 27-year-old had a tough time the last time Tottenham played a German club in North London (losing 2-7 to Bayern Munich) and will be desperate to right the wrongs of that famous night.
