AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has hailed the impact of Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer.
The 22-year-old, who joined the Rossoneri from Empoli in the wake of an outstanding showing at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, has taken some time to settle in Milan.
However, he has found his feet of late and put in an excellent display in the club’s 1-0 win over Torino earlier this week.
“Bennacer is growing up, he’s a player with a great temper, he takes a lot of yellow cards because he likes going to [battle], he wants to win all the balls and that makes him lose his lucidity a few times,” said Pioli, as quoted by Le Buteur.
“He is a very available boy with great energy, he trains every day with the same will. Only, he sometimes takes risks and I would like him to try to play a touch of ball forward.”
The Rossoneri managed added, “He’s doing well and he’s growing up with Milan. In my opinion, he keeps the ball too much in certain situations, but he progresses clearly.”
Pioli would also like to see Bennacer simplify his game somewhat to enhance his natural aggression.
“He is a player with an excellent temperament. He does a remarkable job in the defensive phase,” said the tactician.
“His generosity sometimes leads him to be less lucid offensively and on certain interventions. He is a willing and convinced boy, he just has to play more simply.”
The Fennec Foxes star is set to feature for Milan again this weekend when they face Fiorentina away in a Saturday night Serie A clash.
