Egypt international Mohamed Salah nearly signed for Sporting Braga according to Leonardo Jardim.
The Liverpool FC winger began his football career at Egyptian side Arab Contractors before moving to Swiss giants FC Basel in 2012.
Former AS Monaco manager Jardim has now revealed that Salah came close to moving to Braga from Contractors in 2011 while he was still in charge of the Portuguese club.
“I will confess something that I had never said to anyone,” Jardim told Record.
“I wanted to sign Mohamed Salah for Sporting Braga in 2011 when he was playing for Arab Contractors in Egypt. We were unable to reach an agreement.
“He ended up staying another season in Egypt, played at the level we had already seen, then moved to Switzerland [Basel] and then … that’s what we know.”
Salah has gone on to become one of the best footballers in the world having played for English giants Chelsea and Italian clubs Fiorentina and AS Roma.
Braga currently have Egyptian player on the books in Ahmed Hassan Kouka, who joined the club in 2015.
However, the attacker is on loan at Greek giants Olympiacos Piraeus.
