Norman Mapeza has reportedly quit as head coach of Chippa United.

According to several publications, including TimesLIVE, Mapeza resigned as head coach of the club following lengthy meetings in Port Elizabeth on Monday evening.

Mapeza took over the reins as Chippa boss in October last year, becoming at the time the club’s third coach of the 2019-20 season.

The former Zimbabwe international took over the reins from Duran Francis after he was promoted from the club’s ABC Motsepe League side following Clinton Larsen’s dismissal.

Chippa United returned to wining ways in the Absa Premiership with a 1-0 win over AmaZulu this past weekend moving the Chilli Boys up to 11th place on the log standings – five points clear of the relegation zone.

Mapeza’s record at the club reads: 19 games, eight wins, eight losses and three draws.

Assistant coach Mbuyiselo Sambu is set to take over as interim coach in preparation for the club’s league battle away to Bidvest Wits on Saturday.
